Last week I was given several drawings of different rroms in Pollsmoor prison that I had to update. The trenches that ran beneath the room have changed, therefore I had to make new 'as built' plans of the rooms.

Langebaan Hospital - sketch plans

For the past two weeks I have been busy with a hospital in Langebaan. We are still at the stages of drawing upsketch plans for the clients. It is quite a large site consisting of many different components:
a community hospital,
a 28 bed day hospital,
a 24 bed annex and well as
on site medical staff residense.

All these buildings are linked by a passage which the nurses use.

Site plan of Hospital in Langebaan:

28 Bed Day Hospital:

I was given the floor plans of both stories of the 28 bed community hospital and Frikkie and i discussed and decided on the many necessary changes  to the plans that had to be made according to the clients wishes. Once I had finished all the changes to the plan that the client wanted to make, I had to colour code the different sections of the hospital according to the key at the bottom of the drawing.

Ground floor plan:

First Floor plan:

Medical Staff Residence:

The medical staff residence provides accommodation for 4 doctors, 4 physiotherapists, and 24 nurses. The layout of the doctors and physiotherapists accommodation are the same. It is a small block that has bee split into two halfs. Each half has two bedrooms with a simple bathroom and kitchen. Where as the nurses accommodation consists of the same sized block (not split in two halfs) consisting of four bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.

These small blocks are arranged in such a way so that they will be able to fit on the site provided. A row of three nurses blocks lie adjacent to eachother, forming a double story (6 blocks in total) with a undercover walk way. The physiotherapist and doctors blocks are placed nect to eachother, opposite the nurses blocks (single story, allowing th sunlight to stream into the space between the two buildings). This arrangements of buildings is brought together by a community area with a patio, for the nurses, doctors and physiotherapists, as well as undercover walkways.

Moving Jobs!

I started my new job at the beginning of this week at Fourie Architects in Durbanville. I felt that changing jobs was necessary as I was not gaining enough experience at Boogertman and Partners Architects. Because of the corporate nature of the firm, it was difficult for them to find work that I could do. It was a large office and every employee was under the time pressure of deadlines, and as a result, they would rather give work to someone who could do it faster than to a student who has a million billion questions.

I was sad to leave Boogerman as I grew to like each office member very much. The office atmosphere is a cheerful and humerous one, and the director, Stephen Whitehead, was very kind and understood my problem and aggreed that I should put my studies first.
Boogertman is definitely a place where I would like to be a part of once I have put more years of study behind me and I will have more to offer.

As for Fourie Architects:) This small company is run by Frikkie Fourie, his assistant Brian Sparks and the receptionist Alzariah. The company is based in Park street Durbanville from an old house that has been converted into office space. I have been given my own office and working station and have already finished two tasks that I will post on my blog shortly. Frikkie and Brian are very helpful with my questions and always have something for me to do.
I am very happy here at my new job and am keen to learn a lot!!!! :D

Shelves for Boogertman

Boogertman and Partners is planning on putting up new shalves as part of their display wall as you walk into the office. What they currently have standing on display are many books and pamphlets about the large projects that they have done. These books sit on a table which standing infront of the wall with their company logo.

I was asked to come up with a couple of ideas fo a new display wall for their office.
I developed some sketchup perspectives of my ideas.

IDEA 1

My first idea was to create a shelf out the Boogertman and Partners symbol. Grey and orange are the colours for Boogertman (the wall is currently orange) thus not much would have to change except for adding the white shelf

IDEA 2

My second idea was to create a ceramic shelf in the shape of a city skyline. I though the city skyline would be an appropriate idea as Boogertman and Partners is a corporate architeccture firm that does maily large scale commercial buildings. The books resting on the shelf begin to look like buildings themselves, thus enhancing the idea of the shelf. The Boorgetman and Partners sign would be under the shelf against the wall. Unfortunately the images came out darker than expected so the sinage is not very visable.
